Forde (pronounced “frOO-duh”) on 11,382-foot/3,470-meter Mount Nyiargongo in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo above one of the world’s largest lava lakes.
Nationality: Norwegian. Occupation: Network engineer. Missions with C4C: Kilimanjaro 2018.
How long have you climbed? Since 2008. Type of climbing you do: Mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking. Highlight of climbing career: Nevado Pisco (5,752 meters) in Peru was definitely the hardest and most challenging climb that I have ever undertaken. Had it not been for my climbing mates and guide that encouraged me and pushed me on I would not have been able to set my feet on that summit.
How long have you been a Christian? My faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior moved from head to heart about ten years ago. Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: At the moment I serve as an interpreter in church and Bible school, doing simultaneous interpretation of teachings from Norwegian to English. I also serve two times a month in a language café at my church for refugees and immigrants newly arrived to Norway.
Favorite Scripture verse (and why): I think Joshua 1:8 is one of my favorite verses: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” I used to have this verse on the front of my phone case and when I felt down I simply took up my phone to look at its case.
Special “God moment” you’d like to share: I remember some years ago I had been to this event in Oslo where different churches in the city come together for a night of worship. After the worship concert this guy came up to me and said he had been looking for me as he had a message especially for me. And to me that was a bit strange as I had never met this person before, but it turned out that he had some prophetic and encouraging words that were just what I needed to hear in my particular situation at that time!
What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? I think it’s an awesome ministry that combines Kingdom work and passion for mountain climbing, outdoors, etc. Initially, I was searching the Web for something similar and C4C just hit that spot within me. Based on the newsletters that I’m receiving and the reports I’ve read from C4C, I can truly say that I feel privileged to be GO-ing on my first mission with them this year.
