“If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?” — Matthew 18:12

Expedition

Mission: Ararat 2015

Climbing For Christ has been sent to Turkish Kurdistan to reach the lost – often sheep-herding families – living on and around the HIStoric slopes of Mount Ararat.

PRAY: That God would send us a worker (Kurd or Turk) who is a Christ follower to serve alongside us in this field.

GIVE: To support work among the Kurdish people and send laborers into this field.
  • If you can help send a contribution to Climbing For Christ, P.O. Box 16290, Rochester, NY 14616-0290. Or CLICK HERE and give online via PayPal.
  • In Canada, make checks payable to The Great Commission Foundation, and on the memo line add Climbing For Christ CANADA.  Mail your support to: The Great Commission Foundation, #3 – 1335 Trans Canada Way SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 1J1. Or give online at http://tgcfcanada.org/donate. Mark your contribution: “Climbing For Christ CANADA.”
GO: Climbing For Christ’s fourth expedition to eastern Turkey since 2010, and third straight year to Mount Ararat. The goal is to continue outreach among Kurdish people. Only 0.01 percent (about 1,400) of the estimated 14 million Kurdish people living in Turkey claim to be Christian.
  • Date: Late May-early June.
  • Length of trip: 16 days.
  • Team size: 2-4 members.
  • Purpose: To survey Turkey’s Kurdish southeast and return to Mount Ararat to climb and continue building relationships among the semi-nomadic Kurds who spend summer months with sheep herds grazing on the 16,854-foot/5,137-meter mountain’s slopes.
  • Cost: Estimated at US$3,245 plus airfare to/from and around Turkey. The estimate includes ground transport, accommodations, food, and trekking expenses. Does not include international and internal airfare.
  • To apply: E-mail info@ClimbingForChrist.org to request a mission application.

Photo of the Week: TurkeyPhoto of the Week by Elaine Fallesen: Flying a kite in a Kurdish village on the slopes of Mount Ararat in 2014. Our Mission: Ararat 2015 team was in the homes of Kurdish people in eastern Turkey in June when members of the Kurdish-centered party made history by being elected to parliament for the first time. That victory was short-lived for the Kurds. In July, Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, smarting from having his Islamist Justice and Development Party lose its parliamentary majority, re-started the long war against militant Kurds. He is, as The New York Times observed re... Read more »

Photo of the Week: Turkey  Statues more than 2,100 years old litter the ground near the summit of Mount Nemrut. (Photo by Gary Fallesen) In the first century BC, King Antiochus built a monument to himself on remote Mount Nemrut (7,001 feet/2,134 meters). He piled up hundreds of vertical feet of scree upon which statues of Antiochus, lions, eagles, and various Armenian, Greek and Iranian gods stand nearly 30 feet high.
