Matthew Fisher

Matthew Fisher

Matthew, left, sharing about Jesus during a medical mission to Haiti in 2013.

Nationality: Canadian. Occupation: Physician. Missions with C4C: Nepal 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2023.

How long have you climbed? 20-plus years. Type of climbing you do: Mostly hiking and exploring in the mountains. Highlight of climbing career: Climbing Victoria Peak and Crowsnest Mountain with my then-fiancé Brandy (now his wife).

How long have you been a Christian? Most of my life; since I was a child. Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: Church youth group ministry and medical mission trips in Haiti.

Favorite Scripture verse (and why): Isaiah 40:31. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” I think it’s very important that the Lord be our goal and our purpose, and I definitely look to him for strength and support.

Special “God moment” you'd like to share: When a woman in Haiti (who didn't know the Bible) asked, “Tell me how I can have this eternal life?” It reminded me of the Samaritan woman at the well who asked Jesus where one could get this living water.

What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? Climbing for Christ is important to me because through it we can fulfill Jesus' call in the Great Commission (“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”) Climbing for Christ has taken on the difficult, but God-enabled task of reaching out to those with the Truth who have never heard of God's name before.
