Mission Moments: Haiti

A pastor serving in the Monte Pou Kris (Climbing For Christ) church was afraid to preach from the pulpit for two-thirds of the year in 2013. He had been told a curse had been placed on him and if he went to the pulpit to speak he would die. When C4C missionary Miguel Rubén Guante learned about this we made plans for him to go and speak to the pastor and the church. “The role of the church through its leaders is defend the faith in Christ Jesus,” Miguel stated.

As a result of this occurrence, spiritual coordinator Jordan Rowley prepared a January seminary teaching called, “Fear God alone.” In a message to the pastors and church leaders in the monthly seminary, Jordan wrote: “I know that many of you still fear voodoo. You say you do not, but you do. I must tell you that voodoo has no power over you. If you are truly one of God’s children, then voodoo has no power over you, therefore you do not need to fear it (or anything else)! You MUST not fear it (or anything else)!! FEAR GOD ALONE!!! Psalm 27:1 says, ‘The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?’ Only the Lord is worthy of your fear!”

The seminary, held on Jan. 25 in Thoman, was attended by 24 pastors and leaders. “The seminary was very good,” reported Miguel, who also stayed in Thoman to worship with the church there on Jan. 26.

Seventy-four people were in worship in Thoman, while we learned 31 worshiped in Mare Pitre and 57 in Jimani, Dominican Republic. There were no reports from Gentilhomme and Malasi.

In recent weeks, Miguel began a special “seminary” for the young church at Mare Pitre. He taught this month on the subject “What is the Bible?”

We also celebrated the baptisms of six new believers in Jimani in late December 2013.
