Mission: Peru 2012 HIStory
Trekking toward Peruvian highpoint Nevado Huascaran.
Peru is a country of breathtaking physical beauty! This is especially true in the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra ranges of the Andes Mountains. Gorgeous mountain peaks, valleys, lagoons, waterfalls and rivers beautifully proclaim the power and majesty of God. However, in spite of the country’s outward beauty, there remains a less-than-beautiful scene on the inside. Many Peruvians hold to some form of their traditional indigenous beliefs and practice them in one way or another. In many cases, this even goes on within churches.
Climbing For Christ’s work in Peru began when we met brother Jaime Servat back in 2006. Upon becoming a member, he made known his request that we work alongside of him in the remote mountains of South America. We learned that Jaime is a man who has devoted his life to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who live in the remote mountains of Peru — and beyond. Several years later, in the Lord’s perfect timing and after months of financial and spiritual support, it was prayerfully decided that 2011 was the time to join Jaime in the mission field in Peru.
The survey mission in 2011 was a huge success in all regards. Much was learned about the people (specifically the Quechua people) and the lay of the land. We visited and ministered to the lost and the brethren in several villages throughout the Cordillera Blanca range near Huascaran National Park (which is named after the 6,768-meter/22,205-foot Nevado Huascaran — Peru’s tallest and South America’s second-highest peak). Many souls were hungry for the Bread of Life and thirsty for His Living Water. So as we had opportunity to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ, many were brought into the kingdom of God. The harvest was truly plentiful!
Since then the work has continued. Jaime Servat is now C4C’s missionary to Peru. He often works alongside Climbing For Christ’s sponsored climber Edwin Milla. Along with others, they have continued to share the Gospel in other remote mountain villages, which is largely where we plan to serve during Mission: Peru 2012. The team will join the harvest and bring the Good News of Jesus Christ into several villages near Huascaran National Park. We will look for more opportunities to witness to the lost, strengthen the found, and bring glory to God every step of the way. A possible climb is being considered as an optional addition at the end of the trip.
Is God leading you to join this team? Please prayerfully consider joining in the work that the Lord has begun in the Peruvian mountains.
