Mission: 2022

Where HIS name is unknown

Paul wrote to the church in Rome that his “ambition has always been to preach the Good News where the name of Christ has never been heard, rather than where a church has already been started by someone else” (Romans 15:20, NLT).

Climbing For Christ shares a similar passion and vision. Our primary purpose is to GO where others cannot or will not. In other words, mountainous areas where people are waiting to hear the Good News of Jesus – even if they don’t know they’re waiting for it.

We do GO again and again and again to some places to plant, water, and watch God make the church grow. Then comes the day when it is time to move on. This happened in Haiti, where God raised up the “Next Generation” led by Gilbert Lindor and others.

Our goal is always to equip, empower, and encourage indigenous workers.

In Tanzania and Malawi, we have focused on making disciples (guides and porters working on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mulanje Massif, respectively) who will make more disciples. We can only visit for a brief time, and we are outsiders; those trained for disciple-making movements live where we are interlopers.

In Nepal, we have visited the Humla district in the northwest corner of the country seven times in 10 years, including the recently concluded Mission: Nepal 2021. We went to Humla when no one else was GO-ing there and witnessed the growth of the church from a handful to several hundred. Other ministries are now serving there. As Paul told the church at Rome, “I have finished my work” in that region (Romans 15:23).

It is time for C4C to GO from Nepal’s northwest to the northeast.

Kangchenjunga.

“Kangchenjunga is a remote (area) and missionaries never have been to those sides,” Kingdom worker Megh Gurung said, referring to the trek into the world’s third-highest mountain. “Those people are under the bondage of darkness and have never heard about Jesus Christ.

“C4C’s trip there will be valuable and carry the Good News among the people groups in those mountains.”

Mission: 2022 will include a Kangchenjunga trek in an unreached region of eastern Nepal. There are other new areas to be explored – possibly in south, central, and southeast Asia – and old areas to be returned to, such as eastern Turkey, the Peruvian Andes, and East Africa.

Here is the tentative Mission: 2022 calendar:

These trips are open to Climbing For Christ members, who must apply to GO on mission. There are other trips that may be happening but are not open to members. Watch for details on Expedition pages.

The Voice in the wilderness When we first arrived in Humla, a remote district in the northwest corner of Nepal, we could count the number of Christians on two hands. There were seven young men in a tiny house church in the district headquarters of Simikot and a brother and sister in an otherwise Hi...

In God’s time The Bible tells us, repeatedly, to wait patiently for the Lord. God’s thoughts, His ways, even His timing are not the same as ours. In the New Living Translation of Isaiah 55:8, we are told: “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” We are guilt...

Healing rain God is a Father to the fatherless and a defender of widows. He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. He is a sender of His people, leading His workers to a sun-scorched land to proclaim His goodness. We have showered love on orphaned children and long-forgotten widows in Malawi,...

Still on the list We were in South Sulawesi discussing unreached people when a local worker brought up a group in West Sulawesi. We looked them up. “Still on the list,” we acknowledged. In fact, three of every 10 people groups remain on that unreached people groups (UPG) list. We have...
