Zachary P. Herbert
Zach with his wife and their two sons.
Nationality: American. Occupation: Financial Advisor. Missions with C4C: Nepal 2017 (Sept.).
How long have you climbed? Recreationally since a young kid. Formally only a few times over the last couple of years. Type of climbing you do: Amateur and I stress amateur top-rope, bouldering, and mountaineering. Highlight of climbing career: Signing up to go to Nepal with Climbing For Christ.
How long have you been a Christian? 17 years. Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: Home-church gathering and community evangelism. Blessed to host, counsel, and teach in home church. Also, blessed to labor in the field God has provided in my immediate context of community. Sharing my faith and declaring the steadfast love of God to the lost sheep yet to come into the fold.
Favorite Scripture verse (and why): 2 Corinthians 5:14-15. “For the Love of Christ compels us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” This passage captures so much of the Christian life. As 1 John says we obey because we love Him and we love Him because His love has been poured out in our hearts. Seated in the love and favor of God is our starting place for all ministry. Secondly, dying to self and dedicating your life to the great Name of Christ is the blessed call and walk of freedom for those who have died in Him and have been “born again” to a new life in the Spirit.
Special “God moment” you’d like to share: Since I said “yes” to going on this trip, God has been aligning incredible resources to make it all happen. It has been a boost to my faith and a confirmation of His calling. Very thankful and humbled by His hand in all of this.
What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? It means going to the hard-to-reach people groups with the message of life. It is a labor and ambition worthy of my Lord and Savior. I hope it is a fragrant aroma to the One who gave it all and taught us to love and serve one another.
