Simple gift of a blanket ends ‘hell on earth’

Malita would sleep “like a chicken” with no blanket, wrapping herself in a mosquito net to stay warm at night.
Damson Samson wondered why the 50 widows who received blankets held the gifts to their faces. “Just to get the good aroma,” he realized.
Life without a blanket for a widow living in southern Malawi, where Climbing For Christ has ministered since 2010, was “hell on earth,” according to Felesta. She said she “used empty bags,” one to put her legs in and the other covering her head each night. Now she has a blanket to keep her warm.
She and the others also have a “torch” (or flashlight), another simple gift to light the darkness for people without electricity.
“I used to go to bed early so I can use the sunlight as I had no light to see during the night,” Felesta said.
Damson, a C4C kingdom worker who started our Project 1:27 widows initiative last January, has overseen the improvement of the lives of the least of the least of these. We have helped feed them, built them new homes, and provided many taken-for-granted items such as blankets and flashlights.
Felesta, for one, “prayed to God to continue supporting Climbing For Christ for the sake of those who cannot do by themselves as us here,” Damson reported. “She said this organization has really improved the living standards of the widows in our community.”
Damson notes the need for US$600 to buy more blankets and lamps for the widows who did not receive any. He also asked for another $200 to buy sleeping mats for those who still have none. (During Mission: Malawi 2016, we distributed mats to men and women sleeping on dirt floors – full of potholes – in their dilapidated homes. Since then, much has changed – by the grace of God.)
