Nationality: German. Occupation: Missionary. Missions with C4C: Nepal 2024, and Peru 2023 and 2024.
How long have you climbed? Hiking I started in around 2010, climbing and mountaineering in 2014. Type of climbing you do: Bouldering, some crag sport climbing, some hiking, nowadays unfortunately nearly no mountaineering. Highlight of climbing career: Climbing Cotopaxi in Ecuador (5,897 meters) with a friend who is a guide, and leading teams up Sincholagua in Ecuador (4,899 meters).
How long have you been a Christian? Pretty much my whole life; accepted Jesus when I was four years old. Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: Staffing full time in YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Freiburg, working with the young adults’ group in my church.
Favorite Scripture verse (and why): Romans 5:3-5. It’s so true that persevering through challenge and suffering leads to endurance, character, and hope. We can choose to take on a challenge, to step outside of our comfort zone, and it will lead to growth and hope. I love that.
Special “God moment” you’d like to share: When I was on outreach in Nepal in 2014, we had an evangelism time for children on a sports field. We started with an (a bit awkward) dance, music, games and then it was my turn to share the gospel. I don’t think I am the bold typical evangelist but when I started to open my mouth the Holy Spirit took over and really spoke through me, directly (through translation) to the kids. Once I finished my message, I asked who would like to accept Jesus as their friend and savior, 5 hands went up.
What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? Climbing For Christ means going to places where other people can’t or don’t want to go. It means using my experiences, equipment, affinity for mountains and the outdoors to build HIS kingdom in the places HE sends me to. To enjoy being in places where there are little creature comforts because it’s a privilege to GO and be a testimony where maybe nobody else has been.
