Mission Moments: Peru

Walking in newness of life

By Jordan Rowley

Sharing the Gospel in the mountainous places of the world comes with its fair share of challenges. The blessings, however, far outweigh the burdens. One of the greatest joys of mission work is seeing lives radically changed for the better – in Jesus’ name.

People are healed of physical ailments; chains of addiction are broken; mourning gives way to dancing; hearts turn from the depths of despair to soaring hope.

The most exciting, perhaps, is seeing death done away and new birth ushering in a new life.

“… Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
– Romans 6:4

Once again, Climbing For Christ’s missionary to Peru, Jaime Servat, was on the backside of the Andes Mountains sharing the message of Jesus – healing, freedom, hope and everlasting life.

The Spirit led him to Huachis District. There, Jaime encountered a young mother named Luzmaria. After he shared the Good News with her, Luzmaria put her faith in Christ. “She was very happy to know that she is a new creature of God by grace, so praise God,” Jaime wrote. We are happy, too – and so is all of heaven.

During Jaime’s visit, he met another woman, named Faustina. We ministered in two languages because she [spoke] Quechua,” he told us. She too experienced the new birth in Christ – even at 73 years of age. We rejoice over her new heart, her new hope and her new life in Jesus!

Others Jaime met and shared with along the way, received reconciliation, physical healing, and encouragement from God’s word. We give the Lord thanks and praise for every heart touched by God during Jaime’s latest outreach in the mountains of Peru.

As if writing the end to a chapter in the book of Acts, Jaime concluded his report, saying, “and all of that was the will of the Lord in some towns, so hallelujah.” Yes and amen, we add, rejoicing in the beautiful newness of life in Christ that is offered to all those we encounter on the trail.

Jordan Rowley is Climbing For Christ’s spiritual coordinator. He has participated in all of C4C’s expeditions to Peru.
