How long have you climbed? 13 years. Type of climbing you do: Hiking/trekking. Highlight of climbing career: Probably Mission: Morocco. It was amazing to discover that my hobby of hiking could be useful for the Kingdom.
How long have you been a Christian? God put it on my heart to start going to church when I was about 16 years old, but I didn’t fully surrender my life to Christ until I was 22, so I’ll say a solid 13 years.
Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: I attend a wonderful church in Draper, UT called The Rock Church, where I have been blessed to serve in numerous areas, including our Prison Ministry, Mission to the City, and Serving Like Jesus. One of my favorite ministries right now is simply meeting people for coffee and talking about Jesus.
Favorite Scripture verse (and why): John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” Someone in my family had me memorize this at some point as a child, probably one of my aunts who relentlessly showed me the Gospel growing up. These words, thankfully, never left me.
Special “God moment” you’d like to share: I’d say the transformation that God blessed me with after reading Isaiah 6. At the time I was seeking, but I was angry with God for things in my past. I was engrossed and lost in my own sin and trying to run and hide from God. Long story short, I was in my room reading Isaiah and got to chapter 6 where Isaiah the prophet is in the presence of God. Reading that made me finally realize just how small and unworthy I really am. Here is a God who is being worshiped 24 hours a day, who controls the entire universe, and a God with this much power who took the time to love us enough to send His Son to die for us. It was then that I realized I can’t control everything, I don’t have the strength to fight my sin on my own, and this is a God that I can’t hide from.
What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? It means Ministry, a ministry that is focused on fulfilling the Great Commission. To fully rely on the Lord to go where it might be remote or dangerous, but with the goal to reach hard-to-reach people for the glory of God.
