How long have you climbed? 10 years – I started climbing in college. Type of climbing you do: Mostly rock climbing, bouldering, and some sport. Although there’s many peaks around Salt Lake City that I’ve enjoyed hiking. Highlight of climbing career: Climbing my very first boulder problem – the Sugar Cube in Taylor Canyon, Colorado. It was a tough one I’d been working on for a while. I climb it now every time I pass through.
How long have you been a Christian? About 15 years – I became a believer in high school. Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: I serve in hospitality and work to make sure our church is a welcoming place for visitors and members.
Favorite Scripture verse (and why): Galatians 2:20. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” I love this verse because it’s another reminder of Christ’s sacrifice for us. It also emphasizes to me that we’re here for a larger purpose and it’s not about us but about God.
Special “God moment” you’d like to share: In early 2022, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer with limited options. The only thing our family could do was pray. And I’ve never prayed so hard. Several months later, her doctors were shocked and told us she was making a full recovery. It seemed impossible based on the initial diagnoses but as we know, nothing is impossible with God. It was a testimony to our family and all those around us that prayers are answered, and God’s healing is very real.
What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? It means we stop at nothing to spread the Gospel and will do whatever it takes to reach those who haven’t heard the Good News.
