Preparing to GO! Updates from the Himalayas

The pastor was once a Maoist leader. His part of the country was a stronghold for Maoist rebels during Nepal’s civil war from 1996 to 2006.
Much has changed. The church led by Pastor Dalsur, who came to Christ in 2010, has grown to about 135 believers. Climbing For Christ funded the 2012 building of their house of worship, perched on a mountainside in Nepal’s Mid-West district.
The church at Korchabang is one of the most engaged churches I’ve been blessed to visit anywhere in the world over the years. They are a joy to worship with, to pray for, and to watch as they go out.
And they do go out.
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation’” (Mark 16:15, ESV).
The church at Korchabang takes seriously what we have been called to do. In 2013, Pastor Dalsur introduced us to a new group of believers in Dharmashala. That body has grown to more than 50 followers, and is in need of a church building. Now there are house churches in two other villages.
“They are converted by Audio Bible listening,” said brother Megh Gurung, a pastor, trekking guide, and member of Climbing For Christ since February 2009. “Those places are one-and-half-days walking from Korchabang.”
Both villages have at least two families of new believers. Megh and his Kathmandu-based Milap church have been sending Dalsur and two trained leaders, alternately, from the Korchabang church to teach them.
“My family and the church family are praying for the fellowship,” he said. “I have been praying to get there to visit.”
That prayer will be answered during Mission: Nepal 2016, Part 1 in April.
“Our goal will be empowering and encouragement,” said Megh, who organized a Sunday School training session for 59 teachers from 21 churches March 28-31 in Korchabang. “I am excited to see the churches in those places.”
This will be a Proverbs 16:9 moment. “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” This is one of the life verses of Climbing For Christ.
Originally, this particular Evangelic Expedition was scheduled to GO to unreached areas in the Annapurna region. But God redirected us.
Megh and I will visit the Mid-West, while Leanne Bohn and Elaine Fallesen work in the Project 1:27-sponsored orphanages outside Kathmandu in partnership with Pastor Tej Rokka’s SARA (Savior Alone Redeems Asians) ministry.

Pastor Tej, a Climbing For Christ member since September 2009, will go with our team to visit the church at Dapcha. Dapcha was the first church build funded by C4C in Nepal in 2011. Pastor Gopal Nepali was sent to Bible college in India with Climbing For Christ’s support. Earthquake relief and recovery funds also helped our family there, including the rebuilding of sister Sumitra’s house.
We’ll also dedicate SARA’s main Kathmandu church, which Climbing For Christ helped build in 2013.
