Mission: Nepal 2018
No
branch can bear fruit by itself
Megh Gurung, Climbing For Christ’s missionary to
Nepal, shared his “passion and vision” for work in a region that will be new to
C4C. He planted a church in 2017 in Pokhara, a popular tourist destination in
Nepal’s West Region.
Climbing For Christ will trek far from the beaten
path (remembering we GO where others cannot or will not), but there is a
strategic purpose for GO-ing to much-visited Pokhara.
“The house owner doesn’t want to rent to the
Christians,” Megh said of the church plant there. “I want to purchase the land
for them. They will make a worship place in God’s time.
“Pokhara is the central place – from there everyone goes to Mustang, Manang,
Baglung, six or seven districts. This will be the main church; they can spread
out the Gospel. They are very bold. We will see fruit.”
Nepal has likely been our most fruitful mission. We
have been honored to build five churches –and
prayerfully the Pokhara project will be realized in 2018 – and we’ve also been blessed to help build up a
young, growing church that is emerging in the former Hindu kingdom. God has
sent us many places in the Himalayas, including Central districts Kathmandu,
Kavre, Rasuwa and Dhading; Midwest Districts of Rolpa, Humla and Mugu; and the East
districts of Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha.
Now we will GO West!
We will trek south of the popular Annapurna Circuit.
But we will be able to celebrate the One Who created the breathtaking views
that draw so many trekkers to the Circuit: the sight of some of the world’s
tallest mountains – Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and
Manaslu. “There it will be clear and (we’ll be) near to the
mountains,” Megh said.
But what we hope to do is bring the mountain people
of that area closer to God.
PRAY
for the church in Nepal, which was only a handful of believers 65 years ago and
today comprises about 2 percent of the 29 million people in that former Hindu
kingdom. This is one of the fastest growing Christian populations in the world.
But conversion is illegal and harsher penalties have been imposed for those leading
people to change religion. May the church remain bold in its call to reach the
unreached.
GIVE
to the ongoing work, which includes buying property
to build our sixth house of worship, supporting C4C workers and ministry
partners, training church leaders, and caring for orphans. Please consider
donating to the Pokhara church project, where land is expensive (US$20,000).
GO on
Mission: Nepal 2018. There may be two trips to Nepal again. The first is
now scheduled for March and will include a visit to the church at Pokhara and a
trek south of the less-traveled Annapurna Circuit. The second (possibly late in the year) will include a dedication of the church at Dharmashala, which is scheduled to be completed in early 2018. Cost is estimated at $2,500. For C4C members
only. Email info@ClimbingForChrist.org
for information and a mission application.
