Project Prayer: Buddhist World 2019
15 days of prayer from the birthplace of the Buddha
By Jordan Rowley, spiritual coordinator, Climbing For Christ
Monday, Nov. 18 – Day 15
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” – Revelation 3:20
Great and gracious God,
We offer You thanks and praise for the fact that You pursue the lost. You once knocked on the door of our hearts, and we let You in. Now Lord, You are still standing at the door and knocking on the hearts of countless Buddhists. We pray, Lord, that many would hear Your beautiful voice and open the door. We long to see You enter in to the hearts and lives of the lost. May many hear and open and be saved. May Your Spirit blow into Buddhist villages throughout the Tsum Valley, throughout Nepal, and throughout the world. Save now, Lord. Save many. By Your grace and for Your glory. Please continue to use Your servants to reach out and knock on doors, too – to share Your Good News.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thank you so much for standing with us in prayer for the Buddhist world these past 15 days. Please continue to lift up Buddhists from all around the world – along with Hindus and Muslims and all those who are in desperate need of Jesus. He stands at the door and knocks. May we continue to pray that many would open the doors of their hearts to Him and be saved. Amen.
Sunday, Nov. 17 – Day 14
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10
Heavenly Father,
We are so grateful that You have come to give life – and that more abundantly. You desire only good things for Your created people. Yet so many have been robbed, killed and destroyed by the enemy of our souls. Lord, may Buddhists around the globe be robbed no more. May they come to know Jesus – the giver of true and everlasting enlightenment, peace and life. Send Your sons and daughters with this glorious message. Open eyes and ears to hear about the One who came to save.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Saturday, Nov. 16 – Day 13
“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” – Colossians 2:8
Almighty God,
There are many ways that seem right to people, but which ultimately lead to death. Buddhist philosophy and tradition have a firm hold on many throughout the world – both east and west. We pray that You would redeem those who have been cheated and deceived. By the whispers of Your Holy Spirit, may many in the Buddhist world come to the truth. May they understand the futility of Buddhism, and acknowledge the One True and Living God who created them and wills to save them through Christ. May Your servants go in the name of Jesus to deliver Your truth.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Friday, Nov. 15 – Day 12
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12
Precious Lord,
We praise the name of Jesus – the name that is above every other name. No other name can save. Not Buddha. Not the Dali Lama. No guru or shaman. There is no other that can save but the Lord Jesus! We pray that Your name would be lifted high among Buddhist peoples – specifically in the Tsum Valley. May Your people declare the name of Jesus among all people. May the praise of Your name be on the hearts and lips of Your sons and daughters – so that many would hear and believe.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thursday, Nov. 14 – Day 11
“For as the earth brings forth its bud, as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.” – Isaiah 61:11
Father in Heaven,
You set the seasons and times. You cause the earth to flower and blossom and spring forth. In the same way, we pray that Your praise would spring forth from among the Buddhist people of the world. We pray specifically for those living in the remote villages of the Tsum Valley in Nepal. May You touch hearts and minds and souls, so that Your praise would blossom among the people. And may the earth bring forth a harvest of souls for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Wednesday, Nov. 13 – Day 10
“Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.” – Mark 6:56
Dear Lord,
There are countless Buddhists in need of physical healing – especially those in remote villages far away from any form of modern medicine. Send Your servants to heal them in Jesus’ name. We know that just the touch of the hem of Your garment is enough. As many as touch You, You can make well. Lord, we pray that You would use us to declare and deliver Your healing power. May many receive physical healing as a means to receive deeper spiritual healing!
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Tuesday, Nov. 12 – Day 9
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” – Psalm 19:1
Glorious God,
All anyone needs to do is look up, and they will see Your glory. Though the heavens may not declare the Gospel of God, they do declare the glory of God. The sun, the moon and every evening star – which are seen quite well in mountain villages like the ones the Mission: Nepal 2019 Part 2 team has been ministering in. All creation cries out the truth of a Creator. Lord, we pray that Buddhists would lift their eyes to the heavens and give You glory. May many come to view You not only as Creator, but as Savior.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Monday, Nov. 11 – Day 8
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” – Matthew 13:44
Lord,
You know the sacrifice that is sometimes required to follow You – especially in places where Christians are the minority. But the reward – the treasure – is far beyond comparing with what may be “sold” to follow You. You are the reward. You are the treasure. May many in the Buddhist world find this treasure. Use your sons and daughters to go into the highways and byways, to every hill and valley, to every village speaking of the immense value and beauty of such a great treasure – salvation in Christ.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Sunday, Nov. 10 – Day 7
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’” – John 3:3
Heavenly Father,
Apart from being born again, Your Word tells us that no one can see the kingdom of God. No amount of good intentions or good deeds is enough for us to merit our way into Your kingdom. Rather, only being born again – born anew in the Spirit by receiving the Good News of salvation through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus – can we enter Your kingdom. Thank You, Lord, that You have made a way. We ask that You would breathe Your Holy Spirit into Buddhist nations, villages, families and individuals – that they might be born again! May Your kingdom grow and grow among every people.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Saturday, Nov. 9 – Day 6
“The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.” – Psalm 145:8
Dear Lord,
We rejoice over Your grace and compassion. You truly are rich in mercy, extending Your beautiful kindness to all. May we, too, be filled with grace, compassion and mercy. May Your sons and daughters rise in response to Your Great Commission to GO and tell the world just how marvelous You are. And in Nepal’s Tsum Valley, grant our Mission: Nepal 2019, Part 2 team favor with the local Buddhist people. May hearts be open to Your grace, compassion and mercy.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Friday, Nov. 8 – Day 5
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9
Heavenly Father,
We give You praise and thanks for Your heart for the whole world. Your heart is that no one would perish, but that all would come to faith in You. That’s our desire, too. We pray for our Mission: Nepal 2019, Part 2 team right now. Please bring those who are ripe and ready to receive You into our path as we continue to trek. We pray for divine appointments today and in the days to come, and that all would come to repentance.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thursday, Nov. 7 – Day 4
“Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” – Isaiah 45:22
Dear God,
Just by looking to You – the only God – we can be saved. No matter how old, or how smart, or what caste or class we belong to, all of us can simply look to the Lord. Open eyes that have been blinded by a lifetime of Buddhist teaching. May many see You clearly – for the first time.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Wednesday, Nov. 6 – Day 3
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” – John 14:6
Father,
We know and believe that Jesus is the only Way to salvation. Apart from Him, no amount of good works or good karma can save us. You’ve made it so simple, yet so many remain so lost. Send us, Lord, to share Your truth with our Buddhist neighbors. Help us to see them as You do. And to lead them to new life in Christ.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Tuesday, Nov. 5 – Day 2
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” – John 3:16-17
Dear Lord,
We thank You for Your amazing love. And Your love for us is so strong that You gave Your only begotten Son so that we could be saved – and so that every Buddhist in every village could be saved. Lord, we pray that You would open their hearts to Your love. And help us, Your sons and daughters, display Your love well.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Monday, Nov. 4 – Day 1
Nepal is famous not only for laying claim to many of the world’s highest mountains, but also for being the birthplace of Buddha. Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the Buddha, was born in Lumbini, Nepal in the year 563 B.C.E.
Though Buddha would claim to find enlightenment in India years later, his storied life began in humble Nepal – the second most populous Hindu nation in the world.
Nearly 10 percent of Nepalis are Buddhists, in fact, with many living in mountain villages not far from Tibetan China. And that’s precisely why C4C’s Mission: Nepal 2019, Part 2, is currently underway. (CLICK HERE for Daily Dispatches).
Today, and as you read on in the days ahead, our team will be trekking in the Tsum Valley – a predominately Buddhist area of Nepal’s breathtaking Himalayas.
We hope for a harvest of souls here and pray that many would come to know and believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord. And we ask you to join us in prayer for Buddhists here in Nepal, elsewhere in Asia, and around the world.
It may not always feel like our prayers do too awful much, but the truth is, they are often a life and death event, affecting the eternal destination of millions upon millions of lost souls.
Your prayer (today and in the days to come) could be part of an open door or open heart that results in a heavenly celebration over someone coming to faith in Jesus!
So, I invite you along on a prayer journey as we GO in Jesus’ name! From November 4 to November 18, we’ll be posting a new prayer inspired by Scripture our visit to Nepal – the birthplace of Buddha.
Will you join us in prayer – and be part of the salvation story of a soon-to-be former Buddhist?
Father in Heaven,
We give you thanks for Your heart for this world – including the hundreds of millions of Buddhists from all over the world. And we thank You for assembling this team to GO and reach out to the Buddhist communities of the Tsum Valley in Nepal. We ask that You would open eyes to see the truth. Bless this team with your protection and with open doors to share Your Good News – that many would come to know You as Savior and Lord.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
