Rachel Horton

Rachel Horton on Silver Mountain in Colorado, USA.

Nationality: American. Occupation: College student/Boy Scout summer camp staff. Missions with C4C: Peru 2014.

How long have you climbed? For about three years now. Type of climbing you do: Mostly trekking and hiking, some rock climbing. Highlight of climbing career: Right after I first started getting into climbing, a really good friend of mine introduced me to the Boy Scouts and a branch called Venturing that girls could be a part of. My Venture Crew and I went to this huge camp called Philmont and went trekking for two weeks. It was so amazing, and it changed my life! While I was there, God helped me to decide that I wanted to change other people’s lives through the outdoors for the rest of my life.

How long have you been a Christian? My whole life! Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: I am blessed to serve the Lord through my local church, my Venture Crew, Christian Challenge, and now with Climbing For Christ!

Favorite Scripture verse (and why): Galations 2:20. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” This verse really means a lot to me because of how powerful it is when you really think about it.

Special “God moment” you'd like to share: I was helping the leader of the Christian Challenge group in Durango, CO, USA to set up her Christmas decorations and she had a Japanese foreign exchange student helping as well. It was just really special to explain to someone of a different culture why we have the CHRISTmas traditions that we do.

What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? Climbing For Christ is an amazing opportunity for people like me to do what we love while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ (Who we also love). It’s a new way for God’s Word to reach all ends of the Earth!
